My name is John Pearce,  and I live near the South Wales coast in the UK.   Apart from a few brief interludes I have always been associated with the sea and ships, they are I suppose, my first love when it comes to inanimate objects, but then how can ‘inanimate’ be a good description of a beautiful, living, even breathing, ship at work!

Being something of a modeling ‘nut’ I suppose it was inevitable that once I retired I would get into building model ships and boats.  On the following pages you can see some of my efforts at ship building.  Now I must warn you that some of these models have been far from successful but at least I can say with ‘hand on heart’ that none, as yet, have turned from a surface ship into a submarine!

I am a total fan of tugs, whilst the ‘box’ revolution changed almost all  dry cargo vessels into glorified shoe boxes, tankers into mini Saudi Arabia’s and car carriers into the ugliest things afloat.   Tugs, because of the way the work they are being asked to carry out these days has changed and increased never cease to be interesting.   Think about the wide range of jobs these busy little ( in some cases not so little) ships are expected to do; harbour duties (yes they still assist ships to dock and undock), salvage, escort, fire fighting, anti-pollution and oil rig supply.  That’s just the tip of the iceberg, so what a wonderful little ship to get hooked on modeling!

I will try to keep the comments interesting and the pictures worth a second look at, I hope you enjoy my efforts.
